![]() ![]() Completing all six trials activates a "Lights Out" puzzle, breaking light bulbs with the ball when this is done the table goes into Nighttime Fantasy Multiball mode before resetting the table (play continues, and multiple Lights Out are possible). Going on all the rides (activating all 10 zone puzzles), activating both multiballs, and frequently visiting the Snack Bar sinker are also needed to complete General play. General play proceeds as the player completes the six trials-completing 5 Fun Zone puzzles, completing 5 Thrill Zone puzzles, getting Thrill points (the letters spelling THRILLRIDE) in order to activate and complete the Nighttime Fantasy puzzle. Two of the Fun Zone puzzles send the players to secondary tables, a River Rafting table and a Lightning Racer Virtual Coaster. There are two multiball ramps, one a roller coaster (the Wildcat) and one a water ride (the Coal Cracker). Thrill Ride has one primary table, which doubles as a region for Fun Zone puzzles, and a secondary Thrill Zone table to one side. It is set in Hersheypark with rides and theme park elements as puzzles and table features. The PC version was included in Sierra's Game Room for the PC in 2004. The wonderful animations, sound, and the focus on making a fun game and not an exact copy of a real pinball table push this one ahead of the pack. The final title of the series, Thrill Ride (1999) also received a Game Boy Color version, which was developed by Left Field Productions and released by Sierra in December 2000. It chock-full of ramps, specials, bonus levels, and that elusive hidden table. I often 'killed' myself on purpose just to exit the mini-game (giving up millions of possible points).Įven so, the good points of Creep Night outweigh the bad. ![]() The worst of them was a bad 'Simon' clone where you had to make little animated goblins ring bells in a particular order. These games are poorly designed and not fun. There are dimensional portals that you can hit that will send you into a different game altogether. The most irritating thing is that it hardly ever shows you how many balls you have left, a potentially useful piece of information.Īnother flaw is the inclusion of some little mini-games. Sometimes it shows your score, sometimes it flashes messages, but there is more than enough room to do all this at once. Its especially large when you see how little info it displays. The info bar at the bottom of the screen is quite large, taking up what could otherwise be valuable pinball area. Unfortunately, Creep Night is not without flaws. There were occasional hiccups in the sound when it tried to do too many things at once, as when the wraith appears and sings her haunting melody. The music is good, but is also an obvious rip-off of Danny Elfman's Tales from the Crypt intro. The sound is excellent, with perfect little digitized voices, taunts, clangs, wails, moans and other spooky effects. One special segment has a little goblin driving a go-cart around the table, another brings out a hungry ghost who will eat your ball if he catches it. Unlike other video pinball games such as Crystal Caliburn and Last Gladiators, Creep Night takes advantage of the fact that it is video pinball and includes things that would be impossible on a physical pinball table (i.e. This is probably the best part of 3D pinball. Rats and goblins scamper into the playing field, daring you to hit them with the ball. ![]() Ghosts and bats dart around and circle the ramparts. ![]() Bash the bottom of a tower and flames spurt out the top. The bumpers, columns and barriers are all suited to the theme. Aside form the accurate movement of the ball and flippers et al, there is also plenty of eye candy to go around. Although they did get a little blocky when the screen was blown up to fit my 17" monitor in full screen mode. The graphics look quite good with a kind of cartoonish 'Disney Haunted House' quality. The bottom of the screen is taken up by an information bar for your score, specials, and number of balls left. Each of the tables is split into 3 smaller tables arranged horizontally on your screen. A hidden 4th table also lurks somewhere in the game, but I haven't found it yet. There's a haunted castle, a dungeon, and the laboratory. Creep Night has 3 tables to choose from (or you can challenge all 3 at the same time). Tables can be played individually, or all at once in a campaign to beat them.Ĭreep Night is the second installment in Sierra's 3D Ultra Pinball Series. There are even cutaways to mini-video games where you can rack up bonus points. In the 3-D Ultra Pinball tradition, many of the effects achieved on these tables could not be reproduced on traditional machines. ![]()
